Things about Tutoring Companies

When it comes to your child's education, you have options. Admit it you see the big name tutoring corporate ads on the television or hear about them on the radio. , and you become interested. Lets face it, with the economy on the fritz and finding a job has become harder to do, you want your child's gain every advantage they can receive.
The problem I have found is that these Big Name tutoring agencies prey upon parents willing to spend anything for their kids to get ahead. Be wary of them. Here are a few things that you should know:

1. They do not follow your child's school curriculum. They follow there own, which in itself may be fine but there is a disconnect many times with the child and they become confused learning one thing at school and another at the learning center.

2. Most of the teachers are not State Certified as teachers. They have some but most of their tutors go through a company training program. You want your student's tutor to be a certified teacher.

3. Most of the sessions are group instruction. It is educationally more beneficial for your child to have a one on one instruction.

4. They guarantee your child's success -IN THEIR PROGRAM, not in school. If your child does not improve they will not give you your money back, rather they will have your child retake the course. This does not necessarily solve the problem. Your child may have a different learning strategy then their institutionalized program. In truth no one can guarantee your child's success. It is through hard work, motivation, and commitment from your child, yourself, the school, and the teacher that will most benefit your child's success

I have found more complaints about these learning centers then you can imagine. When they come to Exceed Expectations many are wary because of past problems with the learning centers. Don't get me wrong, I think that the learning centers are a great thing but it is my feeling that people would do better to find a private one-to-one tutor cheaper than they can offer.

There are some places that I know of off hand that do this. ClubZ is an excellent source for people to use when looking for in home tutoring. Many times teachers at schools will offer their services. It is my advice to really do your research before settling in on a particular service. Ask some of these questions:
1. Are your tutors state certified teachers?
2. How do you individualize instruction?
3. What are the terms of the contract?
4. Do you have references that I can contact?
5. How can we assess our child's educational abilities now?
6. How do you monitor our child's progress?

If they give you any round about answer to these questions do yourself a favor and walk away. They are just looking to make a quick buck and do not have your child's best interest in mind.
